Every year ICUC and Siloam Mission team up for a charity event called #Shop4Siloam. This year we will be sponsoring our fourth annual #Shop4Siloam charity event relying on the power of social media. The event will be live-tweeted by @ICUC and @SiloamMission using the hashtag #Shop4Siloam.
This year #Shop4Siloam will be held at Sobeys – St. Anne’s Rd on Tuesday, March 26 in the parking lot from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We’re excited to take part in this event with Siloam Mission!
Siloam Mission is a connecting point between the compassionate and Winnipeg’s less fortunate. They offer programs and services at no charge to those experiencing homelessness.
According to statistics found on CBC News, Homelessness in Winnipeg, there are:
- 350 living on the streets
- 1,915 in shelters
- 135,000 at risk
- 7,600 “hidden” homeless
HungerCount 2012 provided the following statistics regarding hunger in Canada:
- 93,000 people each month access a food bank for the first time
- 38% of those turning to food banks are children and youth
- 4% of adults helped are over age 65
- 52% of households helped receive social assistance
- 14% of food banks ran out of food during the survey period
- 55% of food banks needed to cut back on the amount of food provided to each household
Every year ICUC helps Siloam Mission raise donations for their Easter meal to feed those in need of food and shelter. We consider it an honor to partner with them both in person in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and online as we seek to provide a meal for the homeless of Winnipeg.
Last year the mission reported that about 950 pounds of food were donated along with $1720 in donations. This is an important event where we can help those in need. After that you will click to the next page where you fill out your personal information. Following that is a page where you choose where you heard about them. Choose the top selection: #shop4siloam.
